World of Warcraft dominates
According to this chart it’s no question which mmorpg
is the dominating one. According to this chart from mmogchart.com World of Warcraft has more than 6,5 million subscribers!Geez! I must sure be hard for the competition to catch up with this game. The math: 6,5 million x 15$ (per month) = 97,5 million per month!

Yeah….it’s kinda sad, really. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that if we’re first going to engage in play that’s sociable - we tend to go where our friends are. But there’s so many more exciting worlds to explore!
I guess WoW just really hit the jackpot when they made the game fun instantly, while most other MMORPGs don’t really become fun until you’ve played a lot for at least a month! That was just genius!
I’m quite excited to see how Funcom’s Conan will do! And I’m really suprised that Dungeons & Dragons isn’t on this list…what happened do you think?
I don’t know. I was looking for a couple of other mmorps too, like Anarchy Online. I guess that these games have less than 120 000 subscribers and are therefore excluded from the list. I’m also very excited to see how Funcom’s Age of Conan will do! I think that with Funcom’s experience from Anarchy Online they will do well. I am however curious about how the hardcore rpg fans will like the manual combat system.
Aha! Anarchy Online under 10,000? That’s bizarre! Wasn’t expecting that. And Dungeons and Dragons went straight up to 90,000 the month it was released (jan)!
